SERIES: Kitve ha-Rav Y. L. Ha-Kohen Fishman, 1. Maimon (1875-1962) was a leader of religious Zionism; after years of work in Eastern Europe, he settled in Israel in 1913. In Israel he helped found Mizrachi, the educational organization, and when he was expelled from Israel by the Turks during WWI, he continued to advance Mizrachi's interests in the United States. He was on the first ship - literally - back to Palestine after the war. After the State of Israel was established, Maimon briefly worked in the government; he was elected to the First Knesset. A "prolific" writer, after his retirement from government service, he devoted himself solely to literary pursuits.
